North West London Hub

Train to be a teacher at
the North West London Hub

““The highlights of my training have been, seeing the positive impact my teaching has
had on pupils, working with a range of supportive teachers, and meeting other
trainees at the training days who are now my friends.””

How it works

National Mathematics and Physics SCITT’s North West London Hub is led by St
Helen’s School, an independent day school for girls aged 3–18 located in
Northwood.

Founded in 1899, St Helen’s has a long-standing reputation for
academic excellence and provides a dynamic environment for science education,
supported by strong subject expertise and an established culture of professional
learning.
The school benefits from a purpose-built STEM Centre opened in 2021, featuring
modern physics laboratories, high-quality equipment and specialist teaching spaces
designed to support practical work, experimentation and innovative approaches to
teaching Physics. Trainees will attend St Helen’s one day a week for hub-based
training, collaboration with peers, and tailored professional development led by
experienced physics educators and trained mentors.
Full-time trainees spend the remainder of the week in one of our partner placement
schools, gaining classroom experience, developing their teaching practice and
learning directly from experienced practitioners. This model ensures a strong
balance between centre-based training and real classroom exposure, preparing
trainees to enter the profession with confidence and subject expertise.
St Helen’s is proud to be launching the North West London Hub within the NMAPS
network, committed to developing excellent physics teachers and supporting the
growth of subject specialists across the region.

Subject specific teacher training for Mathematics and Physics

Our courses are led by expert teachers in physics so you will cover the subject you
want to teach rather than a generalist syllabus.

SCITT OFSTED

“Leaders have designed a well structured, coherent and ambitious ITE curriculum … Trainees value how well subject leaders and mentors within their regional hub know them as individuals.”
