How it works
The National Mathematics and Physics SCITT’s Surrey hub is led by Caterham School, a co-educational independent day and boarding school, for pupils aged 11 – 18, located in the Surrey Hills.

Trainees will be based here for their hub training days providing the opportunity for trainees to come together with other mathematics trainees, share ideas and experiences and learn from our outstanding hub subject leads.
Trainees will spend most of their time at one of our growing network of placement schools, where they will build their experience and learn from some great teaching mentors, so they can enjoy a flying start to their teaching career.
Introducing Penny
Penny Parker is the Surrey Hub Lead. She has been teaching Mathematics since 2012, after completing her Mathematics and Music degree at Royal Holloway, University of London in 2010, and her PGDipEd with QTS at Birmingham University in 2011. After two years in the state sector, during which time she completed her Masters of Education with Birmingham University, she moved to Caterham School where she has been teaching ever since. During her time at Caterham School, she has held the positions of Assistant Head of Year and Second in Charge of Mathematics before becoming the school’s Head of Initial Teacher Training in 2024. She has responsibility for all trainees and Early Careers teachers as well as running the NMAPS Surrey Mathematics Hub. She also works as an Associate Lecturer for Goldsmiths University’s Education Department, working with the Secondary Mathematics team to support trainees through their programme
