The National Mathematics and Physics SCITT (NMAPS) is pleased to announce that it has joined Chorus Education Trust. Leadership of the SCITT has transitioned from Wycombe High School Academies Trust, which has successfully led NMAPS for the past seven years.
Since its establishment in 2017, NMAPS has played a pivotal role in national efforts to recruit, train, and retain high-calibre mathematics and physics teachers, addressing shortages in these critical subjects.
Chorus Education Trust, which already leads the highly regarded National Modern Languages (NML) SCITT, will collaborate with NMAPS to create a dynamic and expanded Initial Teacher Training (ITT) offering.
Cathy Hillier, Director of NMAPS, said: “We are immensely proud of our legacy in training subject-specific mathematics and physics teachers and shaping the next generation of specialists in these essential fields. Joining the Chorus Education Trust family will further strengthen our impact, and we are excited about the opportunities this partnership will bring.”
Chris James, CEO of Chorus Education Trust, added: “With over seven years of proven success in leading the National Modern Languages SCITT, we are confident that NMAPS has found its perfect home within our trust. This partnership marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter.”
Katherine Lewis-Ward, Executive Director of the South Yorkshire Teaching Hub, said: “Recruitment for the next cohort of trainees is now open, and we look forward to welcoming talented individuals who are ready to inspire the mathematicians and physicists of tomorrow.”
Wycombe High School will continue to support NMAPS as a hub school under the new leadership. Headteacher Nicola Renyard commented: “It has been a privilege to establish and lead such an impactful SCITT, empowering aspiring teachers to enter, thrive, and remain in the profession. The future of NMAPS is bright, and we look forward to being part of its continued success.
